Written and compiled by 2025 Summer Marketing Intern Olivia Huntley-Robertson
My name is Liv Huntley-Robertson, and I am a rising senior at Chapman University pursuing a degree in Communications. This summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to enter the world of marketing as an intern on the Wealthspire Advisors team. I came into this internship eager to apply what I’ve learned in the classroom, but my experience this summer surpassed anything I could have imagined.
From my first day, I could tell that Wealthspire was a special company. The energy was bright and welcoming; the people were engaged and passionate, even at 9 in the morning. And this extended beyond just the NYC office where I was based. Breanna Witt, a Wealth Management Intern in the Madison, Wisconsin office confirmed that this was an organization-wide standard:
“I've really appreciated the supportive, family-like environment on our team—it's had such a positive impact on my experience! I'm looking forward to the rest of the internship, building stronger relationships, and having even more great experiences!”
Meeting the Marketing team only amplified my enthusiasm about the time I would spend at Wealthspire. Right away, the work I was assigned was meaningful, boosting my confidence and further increasing my passion for each and every project I worked on.
After being introduced to the CEO, Mike LaMena, and the President and COO, Eric Sontag, my admiration for Wealthspire was further cemented. Their passion, dedication, and pride not only in the work they do, but in the people they serve and their employees was truly inspiring. I was particularly drawn to Wealthspire’s strong cultural beliefs of Succeed Together, Go Big, and Inspire, and I believe that these values are beautifully reflected in many of the initiatives the company is working on.
One of the major aspects of my work throughout the internship was the ASPIRE by Wealthspire platform which seeks to further connect clients and team members to charitable causes through Advocacy, Sponsorship, Philanthropy, Involvement, Responsibility, and Education. Through my analysis and research on our existing partners, I formed a deep appreciation for each of the organizations, their missions, and the many ways that they’re positively affecting people’s lives. I got the chance to offer ideas around new ASPIRE-based media and content, as well as suggestions for the firm’s next giving campaign partnership.
Working on this initiative taught me that marketing is not only about visibility, but also about values. Having the chance to contribute to a project where the sole purpose is to advocate for health, education, and giving back to our planet and communities showed me just how impactful marketing can be. It was also a constant reminder that, again, Wealthspire’s mission goes way beyond delivering excellent wealth management services; it’s about putting people first and making their lives better in any way possible.
Another one of the most rewarding experiences of my internship was getting to participate in the creation of the firm’s marketing & communications newsletter. This bi-weekly roundup served as an internal touchpoint across all offices, highlighting new content, information on ongoing initiatives, recent and upcoming events, fun personnel tidbits, and much more. Compiling these important updates gave me a unique window into the company’s environment, culture, and employees. It helped me understand how crucial internal communications are in fostering a sense of community, and most importantly, it taught me how each office and team brings something unique to the overall identity of Wealthspire.
While deeply educational and meaningful, these projects were only one part of what made this experience so valuable. What truly made my summer so special was being immersed in the Wealthspire community. I was lucky to learn from incredible mentors who took the time to offer guidance, words of encouragement, and wisdom to each and every intern. They put trust in us and involved us in real client conversations and strategy meetings. Cody Chamberlain, a Wealth Management intern from our Annapolis, Maryland office said it perfectly:
“We (interns) are trained in and utilize numerous platforms within the wealth management industry and are actively involved in the client-facing side of the business via attending client meetings. I’m extremely grateful that I can be part of such an amazing team and a participant in such a valuable internship program!”
Regardless of the situation, I always felt encouraged to engage in these conversations, and that my opinion was valued. The program and its mentors celebrated our curiosity, cultivated an eagerness to learn, and believed in the positive impact we could make with every project assigned. That sense of trust drove me to push myself even further and approach each day with accountability and creativity.
This summer has solidified my passion for the world of marketing, particularly within mission-driven firms like Wealthspire. I’ve witnessed how strategy and passion can and should always work side by side. I’ve experienced the art of being a “sponge” – always asking questions, learning from the people around you, taking notes, and immersing yourself in your work as well as the company culture.
Thank you to the entire Wealthspire team for making this program incredibly meaningful for all the interns. A special thank you to the Marketing Team, led by Angela Giombetti, and, of course, the biggest thank you to Emily Kurisky for being a wonderful boss and mentor.
