One engine.
Two languages.
Most investors are advised by half a firm: one that knows institutions, or one that knows families. For more than thirty years, the same research engine has powered both, and it changes what we see, how we act, and the value we bring. The discipline a billion-dollar endowment demands is the discipline a family deserves. The innovation families embrace means institutions get a head start.
Capital compounds for those who protect the conditions that create it. Every decision we make on asset allocation, investment selection, and implementation is judged by one test: "Does it keep your capital compounding through the cycle?" The same principles govern a family, a foundation or a pension. What changes between them is the application, never the standard.
Our Investment Philosophies
No investor holds perfect information. With perfect foresight, you would own a single asset. That honesty shapes our most consequential decision and the driver of most long-term outcomes: asset allocation. We diversify deliberately, modeling a range of outcomes rather than single point-in-time assumptions, and build for the paths your portfolio could actually travel so your portfolio, and everything it must fund, doesn't rest on one prediction.
Every investment strategy comes with a compelling story, but durable advantages are rare and we test for them across cycles before anything earns a place. We track roughly 30,000 strategies, hold more than 3,500 manager meetings a year, and add fewer than 20 to our recommended list. Where no advantage survives, we lean on passive indexing, letting evidence and conviction draw the line.
Silent drags on your portfolio like fees, taxes, and structural friction can quietly destroy more capital over time than most bad investment decisions. We treat them as allocation priorities, not afterthoughts: negotiating costs with institutional scale, and modeling every decision net, after fees for every client, after taxes where they apply.
Complexity often masquerades as sophistication in strategies, in structures, and within vehicles. Any firm can add it, but
only depth of research can price it. We admit only what earns its place by doing what simpler tools cannot.
Our investment philosophy comes to life with how we act
- Set The Plan - We begin with purpose, not a market view. The right portfolio for one investor can be entirely wrong for another facing identical markets. Every allocation we set expresses that purpose.
- Act On Evidence – Empirical data grounds our actions and steadies our emotions. Evidence sets our conviction; humility sets its ceiling.
- Control What We Can – We cannot control markets. So, we concentrate on what we can: allocation, implementation, rebalancing, and supporting our clients' ability to stay invested.
- Adapt with discipline – As the facts change, our opinions may change. Strong processes, repeated over time, are how we adapt without abandoning the plan. Frameworks built in calm markets protect clients in turbulent ones.
Our Investment Services
Allocation is where purpose becomes a portfolio. With proprietary tools — Frontier Engineer® and Liability Engineer® — we design from your obligations and spending backward, test the mix against thousands of market paths, and size growth to the volatility you can sustain.
Competitive advantages are rare. With roughly 3,500 manager meetings a year across public, private, and alternative markets we seek to narrow the universe down to the three to five recommendations per segment where our conviction is highest and coverage that continues long after the initial recommendation.
Access is a relationship business. Decades as a meaningful allocator opens doors that stay closed to most, providing access to funds typically reserved for the largest institutions and family offices. Our programs target markets where inefficiency lives, built around your preferences for commitment size, pacing, and operational needs.
We serve as the outsourced investment team for 90+ RIAs and bank trust departments supporting their research, diligence, and allocation efforts, delivering to buyers who do this for a living and grade accordingly.
